1 Corinthians 13:1-8
A little girl had come home from pre-school and was telling her mom all about her day. At school they had heard the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. She told her mom how the prince saved Snow White. She asked - do you know what happened next? Her mom said they lived happily ever after. The little girl said no, they got married.
Getting married is no guarantee of happy ever after. One of the biggest obstacles to happily ever after is the outworking of this 'two shall become one flesh' principle we find is Scripture. God has made us one. Now, the challenge is to live out that oneness practically.
Someone once said, marriages may well be made in heaven but they have to be lived out here on earth.
In order for marriage to work and to have any hope of happily ever after there are certain attitudes and decisions that must be present in that marriage. Today, I want us to discuss what the most necessary ingredient for marriage is. In doing this, we are going to go to a letter Paul wrote the church in Corinth.
Paul is writing this letter to a very troubled, divided, arrogant and immoral church. He has been addressing problems they were having in the fellowship. These people were from different backgrounds. They were from different cultures. They were from different economic classes. You had some who were wealthy others poor. You had some who were freemen and some who were slaves. You had different personalities and different giftings spiritually trying to live life and do ministry together and things were not going so well.
In trying to correct the problem he explains to them what it means to be an active part of the body of Christ. In Chapter 12 and 14
1. Body of Christ is one - it is not divided.
2. As parts of that body we have been made one by the Spirit of God.
3. While we are all the body we are all different. We have different God given roles ...
