Hebrews 1:1-2
One of the most debilitating traumas a body can inflict on itself is that of a stroke. A stroke occurs when there is a rupture or blockage of a blood vessel in the brain that results in a lack of oxygen. It impairs the ability of that part of the brain to function properly. It can affect the ability to use an arm or leg on one side of the body. It may affect a person's ability to see or even to understand and articulate speech.
The ability of the brain to communicate properly with the rest of the body is short-circuited.
Victims of stroke often say it feels as if the affected parts of their body belong to someone else because their arms, legs or mouth did not fully receive the message the brain was sending it causing them to say things differently than they wanted, to walk in a direction they did not want to go or the inability to manipulate and object with their hands in order to do basic things like feeding themselves.
The brain said one thing but the leg, arm or mouth heard something else or nothing at all. Communication within the very cells and neurological pathways of our body is extremely important for a healthy and normal life.
The same is true of our marriage.
1. If our marriage, which is two people functioning as one, is to have any measure of success then there must be healthy communication within the marriage relationship.
2. There must be clear, healthy and consistent communication between the husband and God, between the wife and God and between the husband and wife.
3. If communication breaks down in any of these areas the marriage is going to limp along or stop functioning altogether.
Today we are going to focus on how to maintain one of the major lines of communication that must exist in marriage, that of the husband and wife.
1. We are going to talk about the importance of communication and what communication really is about.
