(May be one of the most confusing or eye-opening messages I have preached in our marriage series. I pray it is eye opening. I did not change course on the original intent of this message but I wound up taking a slightly different route than I had originally planned.)

I don't know if it is true or not but I once read that Ruth Bell Graham, Billy Graham's wife, was once asked if she had ever considered getting a divorce. Her quick reply was no. I have never considered getting a divorce. Divorce, no, never…murder yes.

Conflict and struggle is going to be a part of every marriage. The degrees and severity to which those struggles and conflicts may rise will be different in every marriage but every marriage experiences conflict.

I say that and we know that, especially those who have been married, but every couple begins marriage with the belief that they will be an exception to the rule.

1. Their marriage is going to be different.
2. Their marriage will not be like every other marriage, especially their parent's.
3. They enter marriage with the thought, we are going to have the perfect marriage.
4. It is a great dream. There is only one obstacle standing in the way of that dream becoming a reality, actually two…you and your spouse.
5. You are not a perfect person and you are not marrying a perfect person and when you put two imperfect people together and tell them to live life together there is going to be conflict.

As someone once said, ''Marriages may well be made in heaven but they have to be lived out here on earth.'' That means every marriage will face conflict. It is unavoidable and inevitable. Shakespeare once said, ''The course of true love never did run smooth.'' (A Midsummer Night's Dream Act 1, scene 1, 132-140)

1. We will disagree
2. We will hurt one another
3. We will disappoint one another
