Acts 2:12-40
O.S. Hawkins: There will never be a church that is a great church in the eyes of God without a bold proclamation of the Word of God, the Gospel.
In the church there should always be great emphasis placed on the Word of God. The Bible is to be taught and preached. It should be at the very center of the church's life. God has determined that it is through the ''foolishness of preaching the Word'' that He would draw people to Himself. God's Spirit works through the preaching and the proclamation of God's Word. There is power in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you doubt that then search the Scriptures.
The Word of God and the teaching/preaching of that Word is vital to the success of any church.
1. That is why the Apostle Paul would tell a young pastor named Timothy who was facing a rather difficult pastorate to simply preach the Word.
2. Preach it in season and out of season. Let the Word of God do its work.
The Gospel is central to the life of a church. That is a road sign some of our modern churches have lost sight of and one of the reasons many of them have lost their way. A church cannot and will not have the power and blessing of God apart from a strong commitment to God's Word.
It should not surprise us that the preaching of God's Word was a vital part of the events that occurred on the day of Pentecost, the day when God's Spirit fell and filled His disciples in dramatic fashion for the purpose of carrying out the mission Jesus Christ had given them to be His witnesses. It is hard to witness without words.
Going back to the story in Acts 2 we find that the Spirit of God had created quite a commotion that day. The disciples were not the only ones who heard the sound. Everyone around heard the sound. It was not an expected sound. It was an unusual sound. It was an unnatural sound. The Bible tells us that it was a supernatural sound because the sound came from he ...
