Acts 2:41-47
Here are a few words, wonderful words that forever change the life of a married couple, ''We are going to have a baby.'' From that moment on life will never be the same.
1. The way they look at life and the plans they make are now forever altered.
2. From the moment those words are spoken things start to change. Even the house undergoes a transformation as they prepare for the coming of the baby.
a. Things are cleaned out, after all you have to make room.
b. Things are brought in. Rooms are painted.
c. You start preparing for this new addition.
They do not spend 9 months sitting idly by. It is filled with anxious anticipation but despite all your preparation nothing really prepares you for that moment when the baby comes home. Regardless of what kind of preparations took place over the previous 9 months when you walk in the door with that new bundle of joy you look at each other and smile a rather awkward smile, one that says, ''They are here, now what?'' The journey is just now beginning. The family has changed and now you will learn how to live life together.
When Acts 2 begins we find a small band of believers in an upper room preparing themselves for the coming of the Holy Spirit. They had been praying to together. They studied Scripture together but nothing could prepare them for what the Spirit of God was about to do.
1. I am not talking about the supernatural signs that accompanied the Spirit's coming - the sound of wind - the tongues of fire or speaking in other languages.
2. I am talking about the birth of 3,000 baby Christians on that day.
3. They went from a small group of disciples, roughly 120, to a mega-church of over three thousand in one day.
