Not Called to Passivity
Robert Dawson
Zechariah 8.3; 8.20-23

I want you to take your Bible's and find Matthew's Gospel and then take a left and travel about two books into the OT and find the book of Zechariah, chapter 8 and verses 20-23 which we will come to eventually.

I have found, as a general observation, that people, if they are not vigilant, find themselves on the path to passivity. Passivity is defined as an acceptance of what happens without an active response or resistance.

I did not realize that passivity (passivity syndrome) was a psychological and clinical area of study. I ran across an article by Jason Lee on the subject and the title and opening words grabbed my attention and sums up why passivity is so destructive to a person or an organization.

Passive people are half in and half out...Passivity is an offence of omission (that which we leave our or exclude) - not doing or saying what you need to, not responding, not accepting challenges and refusing to take risks.'' www.positivehealth.com/article/personal-growth/the-half-lived-life-why-overcoming-passivity-is-so-important

It is where a lot of people are in their lives, their relationships, their jobs and in their faith. It is where a lot of churches find themselves...living a half-hearted existence.

Our Wednesday night faithful should know the background of Zechariah because he preached during the time of Ezra and the people's return from exile.
