This world is a harsh and cruel place, more than we sometimes even imagine. In a moment our lives can descend into an absolute nightmare which is what happened to a young 12 year old Ethiopian girl. This young girl was taken by 7 violent men intent on forcing her into marriage.

Unfortunately, this story is all too common in this country. Several men will band together and kidnap young girls for wives and will abuse them and beat them into submission. This young girl was held captive, abused and beaten for 7 days.

There was not a person within earshot that could hear her cries for help but her cries were heard and help did come.

Help came from three very unlikely heroes. In response to her cries of pain and for help three large, majestic black maned Ethiopian lions pounded through the brush and chased her assailants away and then they did they did something unimaginable. These champions, kings of the jungle wild, formed a protective perimeter around her until help arrived. As the police arrived these three saviors and protectors simply stood up and walked away.

This 12 year old girl was helpless, in a hopeless situation, on that she was powerless to change on her own. Her deliverance had to come from somewhere else- from someone else. It had to come from someone greater and more powerful than she was. It had to come from someone greater and more powerful than the evil that held her captive.

As we celebrate Easter we are reminded of another hopeless situation - one where all of humanity found themselves captive to their sin, under the penalty of death and overpowered by the evil and suffering of this life.

Like this young girl our rescue will come from a lion, The Lion of Tribe of Judah, Jesus Christ.
