Sometimes you see something, hear something or read something that you cannot get off your mind. It captivates you. That's what happened to me one day this week during my daily Bible reading. Like many of you, I follow a Bible reading plan. It helps me to stay focused and on track. If you don't follow a Bible reading plan I would encourage you to do so.

Part of my reading this week has been in the book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a great prophet. He was a faithful prophet who ministered in the most difficult days for the nation of Judah. He served as God's mouthpiece to the nations during the last days of Judah. One OT scholar said, ''No prophet had a tougher assignment because it fell to Jeremiah to proclaim and oversee the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem.'' That meant the destruction of the beloved Temple as well. For over 40 years Jeremiah was faithful and unrelenting in his message, one that was extremely unpopular.

As I read the message God had for Judah I was arrested by a question, one that echoed all day in my mind and was still on my heart later in the week. It is a question that we will get to later in the message and when we get to the question it is my prayer that it will have a similar effect on you.

God had been calling His people back to Him. He was calling them to repentance but they had not listened. He sent Jeremiah to warn them, and prepare them, for the coming judgment. The problem was the people did not believe they had a problem. They didn't believe Jeremiah and you can't fix a problem if you don't see it to begin with!
1. The people would say the right things but they really didn't mean what they said. They would say the right things but the right things never materialized in their lives.
