Finding Ourselves in Christ

Colossians 2:6-15
A politician needed some good publicity during an election campaign so he decided to visit a nursing home. He was going around hugging all the old folks and he came to one lady and bent over to give her a hug and kiss her on the forehead and asked, 'do you know who I am.' Without lifting her head she said, 'No, sure don't but if you walk down the hall I am sure the lady at the desk can tell you.'
One of the things we hear people say quite often is that one of the most important things you do in life is discover who you are. Know who you are. There is a measure of truth in that but I am convinced that as a believer, without question, one of the most important things we can know and discover is who we are in Christ. Our identity is inextricably bound up in our relationship with Jesus Christ, who He is and what He has done for us.
But in trying to discover who we are we will not be going down the hall to find the lady at the desk but we are going to turn to Scripture and the book of Colossians, one of the most Christocentric books in all the Bible, and ask a man by the name of Paul. What we see today will in no way be an exhaustive list or study but I pray one that will be enlightening and encouraging.
My intent today is to preach only 1 message. Everybody said, ''AMEN!'' While I will only preach one message I will be speaking to 2 groups. One group will hear what Christ has done for us and has wrought in us. This is a truth that should be ever before us. It will bring joy. It will be a source of strength. The more you understand about your identity in Christ the better we will understand how to live and what to do. Another group will hear Christ can do and wants to do for you and in you.
