1. RELIGION: She would often say things like, ''You better pray that will come of the carpet or you better pray your daddy doesn't find out.''
2. LOGIC: I would ask, ''Mom, why do we have to do that?'' Her response, ''Because I said so, that's why.''
3. CONTORTIONISM: ''Would you just look at the dirt on the back of your neck!''
4. STAMINA/PERSEVERANCE: ''You will sit there until ALL that spinach is gone.''
Yes, our moms taught and teach us many things. Today, as we celebrate Mothers' Day, I want us to see how mothers can provide a lasting spiritual heritage for the children.
We are going to look at a mother and grandmother mentioned in Paul's last letter, 2 Timothy. These ladies may not get a lot of attention but they provide a wonderful example for moms (really, for parents) who want to give their children a lasting spiritual heritage and firm foundation for their faith.
Paul, who is waiting for his execution, writes to Timothy, his son in the faith, to instruct him and encourage him. Part of the encouragement that Paul offers Timothy comes by way of reminder, a reminder of the great spiritual heritage he had been given.
Our focus will be 2 Timothy 1.5 but I want us to go back and pick up in verse 2.
2 Timothy 1.2-8 - To Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to ki ...
