Longing for God
Stephen Whitney
Psalm 63
Desire is a longing for or wanting something that you don't have.
Proverbs 13:19 A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul.
Some things which people long for are:
1. To get married and to have a family.
2. To have a fulfilling or meaningful job.
3. To see society change by becoming more liberal or conservative.
4. To have a personal relationship with God which will give their life meaning now and the assurance of eternal life when they die.
God desires to have a personal relationship with us, but we have to want to have a relationship with him. When our needs are met and we are content it is easy to forget our relationship with God. God uses trials in our lives that we might long for him more instead of living independent of him.

Wilderness of Judah - was the desert area from Jericho south
some 50 miles along the west side of the Dead Sea. It was a desolate region where water is scarce, almost nothing grows
and the heat is over-whelming. It was probably written during
one of the times when David fled from Saul.
Charles Spurgeon - ''He carefully made his worship suitable to
his circumstances and presented to his God a wilderness hymn.''
It is a reminder that we can worship the Lord no matter what our circumstances are or where we are. True worship comes from our heart no matter what we are going through or where we are.
David's words are an encouragement to any going through trials.
1. Trust God instead of falling into depression and self pity.
2. Worship God for his grace, mercy and love for you.
