I think some of the funniest commercials over the last few years are the Allstate Insurance commercials warning us to protect ourselves from the unpredictable mayhem that can occur.

- Like the "promposal" gone wrong. A young man desperate for a prom date uses a yard full of candles to pop the question by spelling out "Prom?" and proceeds to set the young girl's yard and house on fire.

- Or the tailgater tailgating to get to his tailgate causing you to run into a tailgate.

- Then there is the raccoon in your attack who has had the best week of its life or the cat you adopted that has been planning to destroy you since the day you brought it home.

The goal of all the silliness is to entice you to buy their insurance to protect yourself from "from Mayhem like me." It is an encouragement to...

- Plan for the possibilities, no matter how remote.

- Expect the unexpected. Be prepared for when things fall apart.

In life, things naturally move toward disorder and disrepair.

- If not painted, stained, or protected, the wood on your house rots.

- If not properly maintained, your vehicles wear out and break down.

- If not exercised and properly nourished your body wastes away, muscles atrophy and health will deteriorate.

The law of entropy affects every area of life. Simply stated, the law of entropy is "the general trend of the universe toward death and disorder." Things in life gravitate toward death not life and to disorder not order.

Depressing but true.

Pertaining to the universe, the scientists are right, everything is winding down and will come to an end, but not exactly in the way they think. With each passing day all of creation is marching to its appointed end, an event that Scripture describes as the Day of the Lord, a day of reward and recompense.
