A Divine GPS
Rex Yancey
Proverbs 3:5-6
Our source of direction has been transformed today in what is known as GPS, global positioning system. They are located on boats, trains, planes and automobiles. They have revolutionized travel.
I went to the islands fishing when I was on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. My church member had a GPS on his boat. He had all his ''honey holes'' marked on his GPS. He would get close to the place and circle a few times and say, ''This is the old wreck.'' Or, this is where the ''rift-raft'' is located. I was fascinated to be in big water with no reference points and locate these sites.
The Bible is full of Divine Guidance. Guidance is assumed and illustrated by the way God guided his servants. God said to Abraham, ''Go forth from your country to a land I will show you.'' He did and God blessed him and is still blessing through him today.
Divine guidance is an important subject. We have thousands of choices to make in life. We have to make decisions every day. We simply do not always know the right choice or the right decision to make.
Jeremiah 10:23 says, ''I know O Lord a man's way is not in himself; nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps.''
Our Scripture today is a conditional promise. It implies we can set out on our own, and many do. We take a lot of wrong turns in life, waste time; create stress and heartache because we don't consult with out divine GPS.
Why should we trust God to direct us in life?
1. THE CERTAINTY OF DIVINE GUIDANCE.
''He shall direct thy paths.'' This is one of the great ''shalls'' of the Bible. There are many uncertainties in life. This is not one of them. If we do our part, God will do his part.
1. We have a guide through life.
We had a mission fair at Pascagoula where we set up information tables about a number of different people groups. We had leaders trained to expound on each group. Members would go from one room to another to learn about these people groups. ...
