As many of you know, Kristal recently went back to school and earned her Master’s degree. That is something I am very proud of. Being a wife, mother, working and still serving here at the church and going to school was a lot to take on. Amazingly, after almost 20 years of being married to me, birthing and mothering two knot-headed children, she is still a very, very smart lady.
Going back to school was not without some additional challenges. In some of her course work she was required to work with other people on group projects. Group projects can be a great change of pace and exciting if you have good partners but if you do not have good partners group projects can become the bane of your existence. On a couple of projects she drew the short-straw. It is difficult to work as a team when the other person does not live up to their end of the bargain and comes up short. Your grade depends not only on what you do but what they do as well. It can be very exasperating.
Most of us can agree that one of the most frustrating things to deal with, on a personal level, are people who fail to follow through on their commitments. It is infuriating when businesses do not provide the services agreed upon and paid for. We all know what that is like. When that happens we make a mental note, I will not partner with that person on a project again or I will never do business with that person again. We move on.
In studying for the message today, I don’t know if the assessment is correct because we really have no way of knowing, but there are some scholars who believe that the church in Jerusalem, the birth place of the NT church, may have dropped the ball in the area of missions (taking the Gospel beyond the borders of your current context and culture).
