If I had to wager a guess, I would say these words were birthed out of real-life experiences and real-live observations.  These four simple lines display a depth of insight and truth.  Every person who has ever worked hard to achieve something of great importance knows firsthand the truth found in these words.  The road to success is not without its share of setbacks and struggles.
 
If you read the stories of successful men and women you will discover struggles and failures mingled among the successes.  Great success requires sacrifice and perseverance.  To reach the top you have to endure the toil of the climb.
 
It was definitely true of the great Apostle Paul and his life.  He had an amazing ministry and life.  We see him as this great hero of the faith whose life and ministry shook a generation and influenced a nation, and he is, but we seem to romanticize or downplay all the suffering he endured in his life and ministry. 


  • Paul knew there was no victory without a cost or crown without a cross. 

  • Knowing that he willingly paid the price.


 
Going back to where we left off (going to summarize several chapters, which I encourage you to read, but we find common themes recurring in them and will focus on chapter today).


  • He was on the way to Jerusalem.  To fulfill a vow he made to God. Celebrate Pentecost.
