WHEN YOU CAN'T RUN ANY FARTHER (2 OF 4)
When You Can't Run Any Farther (2 of 4)
Series: Jonah
Robert Dawson
Jonah 2
I want you to take your Bibles and turn to the 2nd chapter of Jonah…as you are turning there I want to tell you a story I read about a young college student and her philosophy professor who was belittling the Christian faith and especially the Bible claiming that it was nothing but a book of fairytales and myths. While everyone else remained silent one young girl had the courage to say that she believed the Bible to be the Word of God and absolutely true and trustworthy. The professor said, ‘you mean to tell me you believe a man was swallowed by a fish, stayed in its belly for three days, was spat out on dry land and lived to tell about it?’ She said, ‘Yes sir, I really do!’ To that he responded, ‘Well what kind of fish was it then?’ She said, ‘I don’t know. When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.’ To which he replied, ‘what if he is not there?’ ‘Then you ask him,’ came the quick reply.
I can’t preach a sermon series on the book of Jonah and not address the fish. You may wonder, ‘Do you believe a fish swallowed Jonah?’ The very quick and easy answer to that is yes, emphatically yes.
