THE SWEET SOUND OF SECOND CHANCES (3 OF 4)
The Sweet Sound of Second Chances (3 of 4)
Series: Jonah

Jonah 3
When I was just a little guy he had ear infections and strep pretty bad at times and he couldn't hardly breathe at night when he slept. We had to get his tonsils and adenoids out and tubes put it. A very minor procedure by any standard but trying to get a two year old little boy settled down in a surgical center so the nurse could put the little oxygen clip thingy on his finger and get him to down the goofy juice so they could put an IV in his little arm was not a fun experience.
He must have known these folks were up to no-good. To say he was a little bit difficult to handle would be an understatement. The nurse made me hold him down while they poured the goofy juice down his throat to relax him --- after that I needed some but they wouldn't give it to me.
In his fighting and struggling he did not understand that what we were doing - though scary, uncomfortable and painful it was best for him ...despite how much we saw him fighting it and how much he hated it and how frightened he was going through it we had to make sure we stayed the course. It was best for him long term.
In his little 2 year old mind I am sure he questioned daddy's motives, care and love for him. He did not realize that my wrestling with him was a sign of my care for him...my wrestling with him was necessary and a display of my love.
I ran across a great thought from Paul Tripp on Twitter this week and I saved it because it really fit some of the themes we have seen in his book and our messages today and next week: The question is not, ''Does God care?'' but will you recognize and desire his care when it comes? God's care is not just seen when he rescues you from the storm, the storm is his care. Sometimes you need the storm to see the Glory. Because he is zealous to rescue you from you, God's care can be violent. He rips from you what is dangerous to give to you what is better.
