How Should I Parent My Teen to Love the Lord? (1 of 2)
Series: You Asked for It
Chuck Booher
Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Barry McMurtrie with the passing of Gay.
I have two sons I love with all my heart…
Many of you know my son Tim…
Tim is walking with the Lord…
He is a man of God
He is an incredible Pastor
Many of your Children are walking with the Lord today because of Tim.
He is a great husband and father
He has a great marriage
He is a better father than I was
The Greatest heartbreak of Pam and mine's life …
Rich was the president of the Christian Club at Glendora High
He would lead Bible Studies with 400
It was Christmas of his Junior year Rich told us he did not believe in God any longer
I love him and at that moment I knew that all that mattered was whether he knew God and loved God.
He was a straight A student
He was honest and respectful (still is)
Erin's note to us … he is a man of integrity
He was fun (and is fun)
I love him and I am proud of him
I desperately want him back with the Lord
I never want any of you to go through the heartbreak and ever have to hear what I heard from a son I love so much.
So I want to stack the odds in your favor you will never have a moment like that.
Pray
If you do not have children or they are grown and you wonder how does this apply to me…I promise it can and will in a powerful way.
So hang in with me.
What do Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Samuel and David have in common?
They all had children who did not turn out well
If these giants of the faith had this as a part of their legacy, then what hope do we have of raising our children; especially our teens to love the Lord?
The bottom line is our children have a choice and they need to choose to love God themselves.
Most parents really want their children to love the Lord and still it is God will give them free will.
What I am about to tell you will stack the odds in your favor.
