THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL

The fifth chapter of the Book of Daniel records the fulfillment
of the head of gold becoming the pieces of silver in the image. In
the second chapter, God had predicted, through the image of the
vision that the King had that there would be a great image
representing all the kingdoms of the world. One kingdom would be
replaced by another kingdom. There was the kingdom of gold. This
represented the land of Babylon -- the kingdom of Babylon. It was to
be replaced by the silver which represented the kingdom of the Medes
and the Persians. God had said it would come to pass. In this chapter
God keeps His Word. I'm going to remind you again, although you do
not need it, God always keeps His word. God always does exactly what
He says He is going to do. The mention of Belshazzar in the first
verse of this chapter was a cause, many years ago, of the liberals
denying the accuracy of the Bible. Many years ago at the turn of this
century there was a movement in the world of Biblical scholarship
which is known as higher criticism. This simply means you must
approach the Bible like you would approach any other book and that
there cannot be any supernatural or miracle in all of the Bible.
Therefore, when in the Bible, a statement is made and they find no
evidence of that statement in history or when a king is mentioned or
some name is given and there is no indication in secular that that
persons ever lived, it is always assumed that the Bible was at fault.
So, for years and years and years there was no evidence that could be
found of the existence of a king of Babylon named Belshazzar. So,
they said, you see, the Bible is not accurate. You can't depend on
the Bible. It is not historically credible. In recent years
