This letter has a Last Days Theme:
18 out of 47 verses deal with the Last Days.
The Thessalonian Church was in the midst of an intense time of persecution.
They were to know the times and the seasons but with the persecution they were going through they thought time was now.
The point is they thought they were in the Last days
Most of them were doing the right things
So let's look at what they did so we can learn how to live in the Last Days.
So in this letter we see how we are to live as God's judgment is coming closer and closer…
Pray
So what are we to do in the Last Days?
1. Continue to strengthen your faith!
2 Thessalonians 1:1-4 (NASB)
1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;
4 therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
Ought: opheilo-to be bound.
Paul had to cheer because their faith was greatly enlarged
Their faith was stronger and stronger
Note what it means to have a true growing relationship with Jesus
Faith in God is Greatly enlarged
What is praise worthy is to have an ever growing faith
Greatly enlarged: hyperauxano-grow wonderfully, increase abundantly.
Verb Present Active Indicative
Present-continually
Active we are the ones doing this
Indicative-it is a fact of life
We play an active role in seeing our faith grow
How do you have ever increasing, ever growing faith?
