Back in 1997 Randy Harris a commissioner in Marion County Florida - after being stuck in traffic behind a car with an environmental specialty license plate came up with the idea to use specialty plates as a way to raise money to promote adoption over abortion. After battling the courts and legislature the plates made their debut at the end of 1999 and can now be found in about 26 states. These plates have now raised over $12 million to help maternity homes, pregnancy care centers and certain non-profit adoption agencies. The two word message on these plates is simply 'Choose Life.'

As we look at the 6th commandment, which says 'you shall not murder' we could take this negatively stated command and sum it up positively with the two words from Mr. Harris' license plate, 'Choose Life.'

Hopefully we will see that this command is about more than not taking a life but about respecting life and ultimately about honoring God.
- Just because we have turned the page from grouping of commandments to the next, shifting our focus from our vertical relationship with God to our horizontal relationships with others it does not mean that God has been taken out of the picture

- Our understanding of other people and our relationships with them is rooted and grounded entirely on God. Because of our relationship with God we see human beings in an entirely different light.

God gives meaning to everyone of these commands and this one is no different.
- Life, mine and yours, has worth/value because God created it. He is the creator, originator, author and sustainer of all life.
- This commandment rests on this truth.
