When I consider this universe and even the world in which we live I am struck by its natural beauty and am amazed at the intricate and complex design of how everything fits and works together --- all of creation is fine tuned.
Walking out in the evening and looking up at the stars is a good reminder that our God is a God of order and design and has determined how everything in the created would fit and work together. Not only did God have an order and design for how all of nature would work together but as the master designer and architect He has a design for how society is to function. He had and has a design for how our families are to function. He had and has a design for how we are to function as His people.
Over 3500 years ago God gave his people a blueprint for life. He gave a blueprint for behavior. He gave a blueprint for ordering our lives and our relationships. He gave the 10 Commandments. These commandments do not tell us how to become His people but how to act as His people. These commands are not given to tell us how to become part of the family they are rules laid down for those who are already part of the family.
For the last several weeks we have been looking at a series of messages on the 10 Commandments that I have called Life's Blueprints.
These blueprints tell us how to relate to God and how to relate to one another. Jesus summed them up in two commands: Love God with all that you have and all that you are (paraphrase for those of you checking up) and to Love your neighbor as yourself.
Over the last few weeks we have seen loving our neighbor means:
- We are to hold their life, all life sacred - 6th commandment
- We are to hold their marriage and ours as sacred - 7th commandment
