Exodus 20.16
Every group, organization has a set of rules or values, whether written or unwritten, that govern how they operate. It drives what they do. It defines what is most important for them.
It also determines how people in that group relate to one another - we always act, or should act, in ways that are consistent with our values. Here at FBCLP we have what we call our 'Core Values.' These are the beliefs that guide, constrain and motivate us. They are the very heart and DNA of our church.
Here we say that we believe in:
- Sovereignty of God
- Authority of God's Word
- Value of each individual
- Salvation through Christ alone.
Over the last 10 weeks or so we have been looking at a study in the 10 commandments that I have called Life's Blueprint.
These serve as God's rules for His people and He has the right to set them because He is sovereign
And as His people we recognize that these commands are not simply good ideas or some amenable suggestions that God placed before us and said - I really wish you would think about these and would really appreciate it if you would consider following them.
- These '10 Words' as they are sometimes called are authoritatively binding on our lives as believers.
- These '10 Words' are God given guidelines on how we relate to God
- These '10Words' are God given guidelines on how we relate to one another
These commands not only set forth the supremacy, sufficiency and preeminence and ultimate sovereignty of God but they also highlight the great value and worth of the individual.
As we look at these commands we so often get bogged down or turned off by them because they are stated in the negative --- we see them simply denying certain actions and we fail to see that they affirm much that is positive.
