SOUL-WINNING COMPASSION

Scripture: Psalm 126:5-6

Soul-Winning Compassion
Dr. David Davis
Psalm 126:5-6

''Psalm 126-5-6 - ''They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.'' Psalm 126-5-6

Matthew 9:36 - ''But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because the fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.''.

Romans 9:1-3 - ''I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, m conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accused from Christ for my brethren, my kinsman, according to the flesh.''

Tears, heart sorrow, heaviness, travail, and compassion are all characteristics of a soul-winner and Christian. A Christian must know a broken heart, the compassion, the travail of soul, the burden for sinners that will see them come to personal faith in Christ.

The late Christian statesman Dr. L.R. Scarborough of Southwestern Seminary once said, ''No sowing, no reaping; No weeping, no rejoicing.''

''A soul worth Christ's dying for is worth any man's crying for.

The world doesn't care that you know -- until they know that you care.''

Children are never born without travail and many of us lack spiritual children because we have cold hearts and dry eyes and we are not willing to go through the travail of reproducing our own kind.

In a Book of Six Thousand Illustrations for preachers, there was not one illustration on weeping; not one on tears; not one on travail. The only one on burden had nothing to do with concern for sinners, and the only one on compassion referred to having mercy on beasts!

I wonder if in 6,000 sermons there would be one on compassion for souls, concern over lost sinners, and burden for the redemption of the lost!

The Scripture tells us the heart of the three in the God-Head.
