Hebrews 8:7-12
Intro
Recap of NEW BEGINNINGS (7-year anniversary, 8th year, New Jewish Year beginning 10/2/2016, our first service in the NEW BUILDING, words of confirmation regarding the building: what we have been praying about for years, Helen, Robert, Paul, James Wilson, no striving, high time for all hard labor to end, less money than school).
From childhood, growing up in a denominational church, like many of you have, we didn't see God as a relational God. We saw Him as someone separated from mankind, non-communicative, distant, even angry when we messed up. Even if we understood the concept of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, we still didn't see God as wanting to be close to us. We were taught to fear God (which is good - to hold Him in reverential awe), but we weren't taught that He sent His Son so that we could be forgiven, yes, but also that we could draw near to Him. When we got a hold of the Scriptures, we learned that, yes, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God, but we also learned that all the anger of God, and the penalty for our sins and disobedience was placed upon Christ. Now we could come boldly to the throne of grace, now we could draw near to God, and He would draw near to us.
