Philippians 1:1-2
We all have favorites:
- Favorite car/truck; movies; colors; dessert, restaurant, vacation spot, sport
- We even have our favorite people. Maybe it's your BFF - Favorite Relative - Favorite Aunt, Uncle or cousin.
- Students have always had their favorite teachers and teachers have always had their favorite students.
- People have their favorite pastors. They say, I sure do remember and miss pastor _______. Church was good while he was here…I have my favorite pastors.
- Pastors are no different. They have their favorite people as well. (Now you're thinking, ''I wonder if I am one of his favorites?'' If you want to know just ask me. I'll tell you. I'll tell you just like granny did when you'd ask, ''Granny, who is your favorite?'' ''You are of course - until the next grandchild would ask and then it would be ''Why, you are of course sweetie'')
- Pastors also have their favorite churches; places they have served. Every church is unique and special but there is always one that holds that special place in the heart --- a place the others just cannot seem to reach.
The apostle Paul was no different. He planted, served, ministered to and mentored a lot of churches throughout his ministry but in his heart there was one that stood head and shoulders above the rest.
- You had churches like the one in Corinth that was a pastor's nightmare. It was just a mess. (Immorality - division - class warfare between rich and poor). It was such a mess that the Lord was taking some of those folks home early because they had so dishonored the Lord with their lives and were harming the testimony of Christ.
- The church in Galatia was no picnic either. They were theologically schizophrenic. They were not sure who they were or what the Gospel was because they had been deceived into thinking it was Jesus plus something I do, have or create. It is never the Gospel plus anything - the Gospel ...
