What's Your Philosophy (3 of 13)
Series: Philippians
Robert Dawson
Philippians 1:12-26
A teacher asked her class of fifth graders to write out their philosophy on life. As would be expected she got a lot of interesting responses but one little guy named Johnny turned in the shortest answer. His philosophy was short, simple and to the point. It simply stated, ''I like it a whole bunch.''
- Pretty good answer if you ask me. ''Hey Johnny, what do you think about life?'' ''I like it very much thank you.''
- I had a man in NC who, when asked how he was doing, would say, ''I'm doing good. Everyday above ground is a good day - if you doubt it then try missing one.''
Some of us have not gone much farther than Johnny in determining our life's philosophy.
- You may be thinking - I didn't know I had to construct a life's philosophy.
- You don't. You already have one. You just may not have ever thought to put it into words.
- We all have a philosophy that governs our lives.
Someone has said, if you want to figure out your current philosophy on life - that which governs your life and motivates you - then find out what makes you come alive. We all come alive to different things…
- You're channel surfing and come across QVC or the Home shopping Network or DIY or Network or the shopping channel and your wife may come to life while you are lifeless and cold on the inside. You keep surfing and come across ESPN or some Outdoor show or some shoot `em up and blow `em up and you come alive.
- Driving down the road and you pass by a massive outlet with clothes, shoes, jewelry and home décor stores everywhere and your wife lights up and you just keep right on driving -- later on you pass a Bass Pro shop, Academy Sports or Lowes and you light up and the car pulls in.
Life for you is what stirs your heart.
- That is what drives you - governs you - shapes your approach to life - and serves as a key component in your overall philosophy of life.
