Everywhere you look there seems to be caution signs and warning labels. You have signs warning you against everything from hazardous material, high voltage, flammable liquids, food that may have come into contact with peanuts to wet floors and signs that tell us to beware of the dog or cat.

All of these labels and signs are helpful and have their place. They help keep us safe. If these signs were not there some of us - especially those of us lacking in the good ole common sense department - may let our curiosity or stupidity get the best of us. We may choose to find out what that slimy bright green liquid feels like or even tastes like. We may decide to see just how shocking that electrical box can be or how soft the fur is on the top of that snarling dog's head if not given proper and sufficient warning. We need these labels, signs and warnings because there are things out there that inflict great bodily harm.

There are also things out there than can do us great spiritual harm. Unfortunately, not all of us are as careful in protecting ourselves from spiritual harm as we are at protecting ourselves from physical harm. We often fail to use good spiritual discernment and for that reason we often find ourselves spiritually wounded or poisoned because we have ingested some belief or thought process that damages our spiritual growth and health. We also have a strong propensity to become careless around some of sin's high voltage areas and have our spiritual systems shut down because of the massive shock.

Today we are going to find a warning sign that will help us guard our spiritual health in the third chapter of Philippians.
