Philippians 3:12-16
Bear Bryant, Alabama's football coach for 25 years amassing an amazing record of 232 victories to only 46 losses and in the process winning 6 national titles, told of a time in his early days at Kentucky when his team fumbled the ball in front of the bench, and in the resulting scramble someone kicked over a box containing eight more footballs. A free-for-all ensued, with Tennessee recovering five balls and Kentucky four. The officials gave possession to Tennessee. He said we learned an important lesson, when the ball comes bouncing your way, grab it. Seize every opportunity.
The apostle Paul adopted a very similar mindset when it came to spiritual matters. He was determined to seize every opportunity that came his way for the sake of the Gospel. When I read about Paul's life in the book of Acts and hear his heart in the letters he wrote to the early church I am amazed and awed at the all-consuming passion he had for Jesus Christ. He understood what it meant to know Jesus Christ and to live for Jesus. No other person who had a greater impact on this world for the cause of Christ than Paul.
How did he do it? What was the secret to his success? In the verses we are going to look at this morning we are given some insight into the secret of Paul's success. There is no doubt in my mind that Paul was a brilliant person, a gifted person, hard working person and driven person. All of those qualities played a part in his success; however, all those things together do not tell us why or how Paul had such a tremendous impact on his world for Jesus.
Let's look at our passage for the day and discover some practical and spiritual insight into Paul's success and how to apply it to our lives.
Philippians 3.12-16 - Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus ...
