The Secret to Life: Contentment (13 of 13)
Series: Philippians
Robert Dawson
Philippians 4:10-23

People want more. More of what you may ask. It really doesn't matter. People just want more - more of anything. They want more than they have. They want more of what they already have. They want something different in addition to what they have. They just want more.
Why? Because we are not a contented people and are convinced that in getting more (more of whatever it may be we want more of) that it will give us what we are really looking for, a heart and life that are content. A life filled with peace. A heart that is satisfied. A life that says I'm full and complete.
The problem and tragedy is that people can't find it. When they had nothing and were nobody they didn't have it so they wanted more. When they got more and had an abundance and became somebody they still didn't have it. They still lacked peace. They still felt incomplete. They still possessed a deep and abiding sense of dissatisfaction. They're still not content. When this happens they come to the same conclusion they did before. They conclude that I just didn't get enough of whatever it is I wanted more of so I need to go out and get more - more stuff, more love, more approval, and more power, more fame, more promotions, more____________ - I didn't get enough and what I need is 'more.'
The problem is going to be that every time they get more - more of whatever it is - they will still lack peace, feel incomplete and carry a deep dissatisfaction in deepest recesses of their hearts. It is a vicious and never ending cycle. It is a bypass wi ...
