How many of you have ever received spam in your inbox? Some internet spam is simply unwanted and unsolicited advertisements. Some are attempts to con you out of vital personal information so that someone can steal your identity. You have just inherited or qualify to be part of a settlement in a lawsuit - please send your name, phone number, address, birthday, social security number and a viable credit card….You have a package that failed to deliver please give us your most current updated information. One big problem. You have not ordered anything. This person (a name you recognize) has sent you this message. To see the message click on this link. The problem. A virus that wants to devour your computer's brain is waiting on the other side.

In all of those the subject line declares one thing but the actual email is really something else entirely. The body of the message does not match the message in the subject line.

As believers we have been called to holiness and an active obedience. That's what we learned last week from 1 Peter 1.13-21. We are consistently called to reflect the character of Jesus Christ in our lives. That is what the title Christian means.

Today, as we look at 1 Peter 1.22-2.3 we are going to see that holiness is expressed and demonstrated in our love for others, especially love for other believers. If the subject line of our lives is Jesus then the body of the letter, our life, should be a life characterized by love.

In this passage we are commanded to love one another and told how we should love one another Peter also tells us why we should love one another and why we are even able to love one another.

These things are important. Let's face it, we need that reminder from time to time.

Loving others, even believers, is not always the easiest thing to do. It is hard enough to tolerate some people much less love them.
