Everyone wants and needs advice from time to time. For everyone wanting and needing advice there are two or three more people itching to give advice - not all of it good. There always seems to be plenty of people who know exactly how you should live your life!

Humorist Dave Barry offers some advice that took him 50 years to learn…

- Never lick a steak knife (not good)
- If you had to identify in one word the reason the human race has not achieved and will never achieved its full potential that word would be ''meetings.''
- There is a very fine line between having a hobby and a mental illness.
- A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter is not a nice person.
- Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a water pill on the same night.

That's good advice. In our passage today we find a shift in Peter's letter. He moves from laying foundations for Christian living to practical and inspired advice on how to live as a Christian so that we glorify God.

1 Peter 1.11-12 - Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
