1 Peter 3:12-17
Have you ever been in a situation where you did not respond appropriately or did not know how to respond appropriately? Let me see that hand!! Yes. We have all been there.
I remember working for Whitehead Hardware my first year in college loading and unloading trucks and stocking warehouse shelves. I eventually got to the place where I could do other things, like thread pipe, drive the forklift, pull orders and package them for shipping and even make local deliveries for the sales department.
One day driving back to the warehouse from deliveries I ran a caution light because I was shuffling through my delivery papers and not paying attention like I should and the police got me. His lights came on and I pulled over in the nearest parking lot which happened to belong to a rather large liquor store.
I was scared to death. I knew I was going to be fired from my job for getting a ticket in the company truck. The office walked to my car, asked me to step out and he wanted to see my license, which I could not find. I was so nervous I reached in my wallet, which at that time had a couple of hundred dollars in it, and pulled it out and handed it to officer without even thinking or realizing what I was doing. I had gone stone-cold stupid.
He looked at me and said, ''Son, I really don't think you want to do that! I said, ''Sir?'' He pointed to the wad of cash in my hand. I stuffed it back into my wallet quickly and threw my wallet across the cab of the truck and said, ''I can't find my license.'' Sensing he had sufficiently scared me he let me off with warning.
Wrong response to a very nerve-racking situation.
Peter is coaching a group of believers on how to respond rightly to suffering and persecution. We all need to know how to respond when our faith is under fire. What we say in regard to this will be a good template for how to handle other areas of suffering in our lives as well. ...
