Sometimes the Bible has a way of wrapping up the life of a person in a single sentence. For intances, when we are told about the life of Barnabas in the New Testament, the Bible says he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. I wonder what God's word would be concerning us if, in one sentence, he summarized our life. Joseph's life is summarized in the New Testament as well. In the seventh chapter of the book of Acts and in the nineth verse, the Bible says this about Joseph: God was with him. Those four simple words summarize the entire life of Joseph. God was with him. Regardless of the circumstances that came to his life, regardless of what happened in the life of Joseph, the Bible says, but God was with him. The reason the New Testament gives this summary is on the basis of what we find in this 39th chapter. Four times in Genesis 39 the Scriptures say, the Lord was with Joseph. That was the secret of the succes of Joseph. Things came into the life of Joseph that would have discouraged most men. Yet, in the midst of it all, Joseph came through with great victory because the Lord was with him. Joseph's life is an Old Testament illustration of Romans 8:28. You remember the Bible says: All things work together for good to them that love God. Joseph's life is an illustration of that passage of Scripture. Joseph seemed to have known that himself.

In the last chapter of Genesis he says to his brothers in the 20th verse: You thought it for evil against me, but God meant it unto good. So, Joseph came to th-e understanding int his life that all of the things which had come into his life God used them and worked them out for his good. The Lord was with Joseph. All things worked together for good in the life of Joseph. You remember that Joseph was kind of his father's favorite son.
