INTRODUCTION: Perhaps the one thing that all americans have in common more than anything else is a perpetual desire to be happy. So much so that in our founding document we declared the pursuit of happiness our inalienable right as Americans.

An Englishman once said of Americans
''The trouble with you Americans is you have to be confoundedly happy all the time. You have dedicated yourself to the pursuit of happiness. You boast about it as an inalienable right as though happiness was the supreme and absolute goal of all existence. Surely there are more important things in life than being happy.

I want to talk to you today about God's Recipe for A deep abiding, uncontaminated sense of peace and happiness… or as the Bible calls it - JOY.

CELEBS - Who do you think of when you things of a person who is deeply happy? The culture wants you to think that it's the hottest celeb or athlete. How do I know because that's what they use to sell you stuff.

- You want to be happy? Well use the same cologne worn by Leonard Dicaprio.
- Want to me joyful? You need the same Jeans as Selena Gomez.

And no matter how many times a celebrity goes to rehab, or therapy, or attempts suicide… our culture simply cannot believe that they aren't happy.

JESUS - Well I want to think that we know better - But honestly when you think of Jesus - do you instinctively think of a happy person? Probably not - you know most images of Christ portray him a serious, straight faced, jewish guy with blonde hair and blue eyes.

But did you know that it is written of the Messiah - Psalm 45:7 (NASB95)
7 ... God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows.

That means Jesus was more JOYFUL than anyone around! Does that surprise you?

What about PAUL? Do you think of Paul as a particularly happy individual? You should!
