DESCRIPTION: Appropriate message for an especially avid baseball fan.
When Donna's daughter was telling me a little bit about Donna's life she mentioned something about her that may not be known to some folks who weren't family members and that is the theme or thread of baseball in Donna's life. She watched all of the Rays games. Even in the hospice house she would watch those games.
That being the case I decided to give this little memorial message a baseball structure.
INTRO: DONNA AT BAT - Donna got her turn at bat in the game of life when she was born 83 years ago. She was raised on a farm in rural PA. She was born during the great depression and her family was materially poor. They had no electricity and no in-door plumbing, but they were spiritually rich and Donna was raised in the church.
Luke 6:20-21 ''God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh.'' (I guess Donna understands the truth of those words of Jesus so much better now that she is in Heaven).
FIRST BASE - Donna got to first base in the game of life when she became a Christian. She accepted Jesus as a little girl. She believed in Christ, repented of her sin, confessed Christ as Lord, and was buried with him in baptism for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit. And she specifically wanted those Biblical steps included in this message. What a blessing it is to become a Christian at an early age and enjoy a long and fruitful life with the Lord. No one lives a life free of regret but the earlier a person becomes a Christian, the fewer regrets they'll have. In many ways, this point about the life of Donna is the most important point. Why is that? Because if a person doesn't get their relationship with the Lord squared away nothing else in life make ...
