Galatians 5:16-25

When you receive the Lord Jesus as your personal
Savior the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within your
heart. This is the gift of the Holy Spirit. The
gift of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit Himself, in
turn gives to believers a variety of spiritual gifts -
the charismata. These are spiritual enablements, God-
given abilities to serve the Lord Jesus in the power
of the Holy Spirit. In addition to the gift of the
Holy Spirit - the Spirit Himself - and the gifts of
the Holy Spirit which equip us for service, the Bible
also indicates that the Holy Spirit wants to produce
in and through our lives the graces of the Holy
Spirit.

As you study the role of the Holy Spirit in the
life of a believer there are two commands which are
crucial and key in understanding how to live the
Christian life in the power of the spirit. One of
those commands is found in Ephesians 5:18 where it
says, "Be not drunk with wine wherein is excess, but
be filled with the Spirit." Every day we should yield
ourselves to the control of the Holy Spirit.
Surrendering our lives totally and completely to the
direction and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So,
command number one is - be filled with the Spirit.

The second command is found in verse 16 and also
in verse 24 - walk in the Spirit. In addition to
being filled with the Spirit, that is daily yielding
our lives to the control of the Holy Spirit, the Bible
says that we are to walk in the Spirit. In this
little phrase - walk in the Spirit - I think we have
God's pattern and plan for living a victorious,
Christ-like life on a daily basis as a born-again
believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

understand the role of the Holy Spirit in your life,
you make a rather startling discovery. You discover
