I want to speak to you about the matter of assurance -- how you can know that you are saved.
We have a number of people in our fellowship who have recently come to know Christ as Savior and it
is very important for new Christians to understand how it is possible to know that you are really saved,
that you are going to heaven when you die. I'm calling this message - Do you know that you know that
you know? Do you have assurance of your salvation? Assurance is something which God has made it
possible for every believer to have. In the book of Isaiah 32:17 it says, "The work of righteousness
shall be peace and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever." Paul said to the young
man, Timothy, "Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and known and hast been assured
of. So, it is possible for God's children to have assurance - to be able to say I know, that I know, that I
know, that I have been saved.
From time to time I think it is a good thing for God's children to check out their salvation. The
Bible says in II Cor. 13 - "Examine yourselves whether you be in the faith." It is not an unwholesome
thing to have your faith challenged from time to time. I think it is good for us to check up and see if we
have really been saved.
I heard about a young fellow who went running into a service station and asked if he could
borrow the telephone. They said he could, so he dialed the number and in a moment he said, "Do you
need a young man to work for you? O, you don't. You already have a good one? Thanks." He hung
up the phone and went whistling away. The man said, "Son, aren't you a little disappointed that they
don't need someone to work?" He said, "O, I'm the guy who's working for them, I was just ...
