These next three messages are going to be about one of the most enigmatic characters in all of the Bible - SAMSON. We'll begin in the 13th chapter of Judges. I especially want our young people to come and hear these messages - good for everybody - but special application to young people. So, get your antennas up and listen to these messages.

I want to call you attention to verse 1 because it sets the stage for the career of the man known in the Bible as Samson. ''The children of Israel did again evil in the sight of the Lord.'' The same weary pattern occurs. It's like a stuck needle. It just comes again and again as we move through the book of Judges and we see how the Children of Israel do like unfortunately some of God's people today - accommodate themselves and sell out to the Canaanite culture around them and allow that to draw them away from the Lord.

Notice there is no mention in this verse of Israel crying unto the Lord and calling unto the Lord for help. You will also notice it is the Lord who delivered them into the hands of the Philistines. Why did Israel not cry unto the Lord here? After this cycle of apostasy and as they are moving downward and downward in this spiral toward the world, Israel has come to the point that they have become accustomed to slavery. They have become accustomed to being overcome by the culture around them. It's easy to get accustomed to sin. I remember the first time I ever saw a beer sign go up in our town. The town had been dry for so many years. How shocked and offended I was. Do you remember the first time you heard any profanity on television? Do you remember how it shook you up and how disturbed you were? If you aren't very, very careful you will get so accustomed to sin that it will not disturb you anymore.
