Morally Bankrupt

Frank thought he was a millionaire and so did everyone else but the reality was that he was bankrupt. We come to God and to everyone around us and we think we are ''really good people''. We believe that we are morally good and certainly do more good than harm in the world, we are law abiding, tax paying citizens. We have put our lives together and on the outside everything looks great.

The problem is that we have misunderstood what morality is all about. Living a moral life is not about making ourselves look good but about making God look good. Yes, our society says that morality is living a virtuous life, it's all about being a good person. But we have twisted this around for our own glory and our own goodness when we were actually created to reflect the goodness and glory of God.
We really, actually believe that our good works will make us right with God for salvation and then as we live and make mistakes, we believe that our good works can ''make up for'' the bad things that we do.

This letter to the Galatians is dealing with a similar situation. Just a quick recap...the Galatian churches were being taught that in order to be a Christian you need to have Christ as your savior but you also need to follow the Jewish laws and regulations, so it was Jesus + works = salvation and sanctification. This was totally against the truth of the gospel and went against what the Old Testament taught about how we grow in Christ and how we are saved in Christ.
The people who were promoting this theology were called Judaizers. The problem is that they had twisted the meaning of the Law from its original meaning into a morality show where everybody tried really hard to live by the rules in order to please God.
But God did not give us the Law in order for us to please Him by living according to the rules, however, God ...
