I Thessalonians 2:13
Do you remember that little song we used to sing in Sunday School and vacation Bible School? I expect our children are already learning that little song - ''The B. I.B.L.E.''
The B I B L E, yes, that's the book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God - the B I B L E. We used to sing another one about the Bible - Holy Bible, book divine. Precious treasure, thou art mine.
How wonderful it is to study the Bible. I want you to look at one verse of Scripture - I Thessalonians 2:13. It is so loaded with meaning and it is so important to us as Christians, I want us to just take a little time tonight and study this one verse of Scripture.
Here's what Paul says to these believers in Thessalonica and through him the Holy Spirit says to every saved person in this service. ''For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.''
I Thessalonians was written by the Apostle Paul to a group of new believers in the church of Thessalonica. Paul stayed less than a month in that city. God used him in the preaching of the Gospel and in the winning of lost souls to do a miracle work of God among people there. People came to know Christ. There were new converts. People were being saved. As you read this letter you will discover that Paul had taught them, even in a brief time, the basics of the faith. He had taught them those truths that are important for us to know as Christians in order to live the Christian life to its fullest extend.
In chapter one Paul has just taken the roof off the church and showed us the people. In chapter one you have a beautiful picture of these people of God, these saved people who are now a part of the church of the Lord Jesus Ch ...
