*The Associated Press reported in a press release in June of 1978: Among the classified ads in the Quay County Sun was this ad: ''Farmer with 160 irrigated acres wants marriage-minded woman with tractor. When replying, please show picture of tractor.''*
*Surprised to see an empty seat at the Super Bowl stadium, a diehard fan remarked about it to a woman sitting nearby. ''It was my husband's,'' the woman explained, ''But he died.'' ''I'm very sorry,'' said the man. ''Yet I'm really surprised that another relative, or friend, didn't jump at the chance to take the seat reserved for him.'' ''Beats me,'' she said. ''They all insisted on going to the funeral.''*
*A group of friends went deer hunting and paired off in two's for the day. That night one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under an eight-point buck. ''Where's Harry?'' ''Harry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail.'' ''You left Harry laying there, and carried the deer back?'' ''A tough call,'' nodded the hunter, ''but I figured no one is going to steal Harry.''*
All of these humorous stories illustrate one simple point. Many times we have our priorities mixed up. Does a man really care about a tractor more than a wife? Does a lady really care about the super bowl more than her husband? Does a friend really care about an eight-point buck more than his hunting buddy? Only if they really have their priorities mixed up.
The truth is, sometimes we really do have our priorities mixed up. In fact, any time we disobey God we reveal misplaced priorities. We are, in essence, saying that following our own desires are more important than following God's demands.
Something similar happened to Adam and Eve here in our passage. They got their priorities all mixed up. They left God behind. They chose their own way instead of God's way. They sinned, they stumbled, they fell…and they took the entire ...
