John 3:16
Well, you all were so gracious on the doctorate thing, and that is something that I started in 2001, way before I ever came here. And I finished all my course work and I just had my paper to do. And that was at the start of 2003. And that's when I came here. And I just put that on the back burner, and I put it on the back burner for years. You know you have to keep paying in this program that I was in, and so I wasn't doing any work. I wasn't getting any closer. But they kept sending me a bill. And I thought, This is ridiculous! So I got out. I said, ''You know, I'm never going to do this,'' and so I got out. And Paige Patterson, who's the President of Southwestern Seminary, he was here in 2010, I believe, and he told me, he said, ''You need to get back in. You need to do this.'' And I said, ''Ahhh.'' And he said, ''Yeah, I'm going to get you back in.'' So he got me back in, and I got fired up to do the paper in 2010. And then same thing happened. You know doing that paper is like climbing Mount Everest. I just kept looking up at it and just thinking, Nah; I think I'm going to watch TV. And so in 2011, I was going to get out again, because I kept paying, and said, ''This is just ridiculous!'' And so I called the guy to tell him I was getting out. And he said, ''No, you can't get out. How long have you been in?'' And I said, ''Well, a long time.'' And he said, ''No, I'm going to help you.'' And he said, ''We're going to do this together.'' And he helped me up to a point, but he encouraged me. And so then I finally got it done. And Debbie was the one that kept pushing me along, ''You're going to do this. You're going to do this.'' I said, ''I'm not going to do this.'' ''You're going to do it.'' And just to give you an idea. That paper ended up being 258 pages. It was 269 footnotes and 65 sources. It's not something you can do in a couple of hours. I mean, it just took so long ...
