James 1:1-8
Let's open in our Bibles to James and for those of you that perhaps are new with us this morning we started our series in James quite a while back and we met James' parents. What a neat thing. James is the first New Testament book--- epistle written. We met James' mother whose name was Mary- the best-known woman in the Bible. Then we met James' father, which is Joseph who is probably the least known person in the Bible. And then we looked last week at the whole book and it's in 12 beautiful pieces and James preached a very powerful message to the Church that met in Jerusalem and the wonderful thing about studying this book is we know so much about who he was talking about because he was talking to the first church. All we have to do is look into the Gospels and into the book of Acts and we see that very faces of the people that he was speaking this message to 1900 years ago. So that's where we are--- the book of James.
Now we are jumping into this morning the first paragraph, which starts in verse 1 and goes to verse 12. We are only going to cover a few of the verses because I think it's one of the more difficult portions of the book and let me read to you starting in verse 2: 2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials-When you encounter pain and problems, rejoice. That sounds a little strange- it sounds a little ridiculous. I mean in our society when you get a painful problem you need some Nuproxin or Ibupropen and you need to relieve it and kill it right away. And if you watch television very much you'd think life was nothing more than a gigantic headache you know and you just got to take a pill quick because we don't want any pain. But look back at verse 2- rejoice Christians when you bump into painful trails.
This week and next are two vital weeks in our Christian life. This morning we are going to look at pain. Next ...
