BEHAVIOR MATTERS
I Tim. 3:1-16
Dr. Vines 4/5/87
The key to this chapter and the entire book is in verses 14 & 15. Pauls
says, "These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly. But
If I tarry long that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in
the house of God, which is the church of the living God the pillar and ground
of the truth." The world that looks on around us expects a higher standard of
behavior on the part of those who name the name of Jesus than those who do
not. They expect us to live a different and better lifestyle from other
people. There are several very good reasons why this is true. We, who name the
name of Jesus, claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. The sinless
life of the Lord Jesus stands unassailed. Believer and non-believer. Those who
claim to know Him and those who do not know Him say that the life of Jesus
Christ is unparalleled in the history of the world. The Bible teaches that
Jesus was tempted in all points like as we are and yet Jesus never did sin. In
fact, Jesus is the only person who was ever able to stand and say, "Who
convicteth me of sin," and have no one to raise a voice of accusation. Those
who follow the Lord Jesus Christ are expected to live a life on a higher level
of conduct than those who do not know him. Of course, also, those who name the
name of Christ, those who are Christians, have a Bible to read, that we
believe the Bible and that we try to put in practice what the Bible has to
say. Of course, those who know that and know what the Bible teaches expects
those of us who are Christians to live toward the level of the standard of the
teachings of the Bible. The Bible gives some very rigorous, some very high,
some very lofty standards of conduct for those who say they know Jesus and
they are trying to follow the teachings of the Bible. So, those who look you
and me as those who are followers of Jesus and as those who believe the Bible
