I Peter 1:22-2:3
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through
the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one
another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth
for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the
flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth
away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the
word which by the gospel is preached unto you. Wherefore laying aside
all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil
speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word,
that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is
gracious."
I think this is one of the most remarkable passages on the word
of God in all of the bible. In the very heart of the passage in verse
twenty five it is as if Simon Peter extends his bible to us and he
says "this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you and
he seems to be saying what a book. What a wonderful, wonderful book."
Now in this passage which has to do with the word of God, he
tells us basically two things about our bible. He tells us number
one what the word of God is. And number two he tells us what the
word of God does. Now he tells us what the word of God is in verse
twenty three when he says "being born again not of corruptible seed
nothing that is decaying but born again of the incorruptible seed
by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever." Now he tells
us basically two things here about what the word of God is. He says
first of all that the word of God is living. And the word there is
the present participle which means it is continuously living. It is
ever living. The word of God has something about it that is the very
