MOTHER'S DAY SERMON OUTLINES

by Brian Fletcher

Here are some things to consider when putting together a sermon for Mother's Day. I mention these because we are preaching to an entire congregation not just a particular segment. Infertility. Some couples are unable to have children for various reasons. They really want to be parents but there is an issue, usually medical, that prevents it. It is important to be mindful of these folks as you preach. Not being able to have children is devastating for some couples. Loss of a child. Some families have lost children and this is a pain that will never go away. Consequences of Parenting. Some moms have simply not been good, loving parents. Maybe they have struggled with addictions in the past or personal struggles that have hindered them from caring for their children well. They may have

Big Idea: Following Jesus is just as meaningful in the mundane as in the miracles. Intro: There are 5 things moms find fun: Seeing a friend without kids at her feet Sleeping until 6 am Grocery shopping...alone Taking a bath...alone Nap time or bed time How many of us wish we could go back in time and give our moms more credit on the following?

Sharon Twitchell wrote a poem called ''Before I Was a Mom.'' Let me read you a few lines: Before I was a mom, I made and ate hot meals. I had unstained clothing. I had quiet conversations on the phone. Before I was a mom I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot the words to lullabies. Before I was a mom I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on, peed on, or pinched by tiny fingers. Before I was a mom I had complete control of my mind, my thoughts, my body, and my mind. I slept all night.

I know a lot of people have different thoughts on Mother's Day, and Father's Day too, But when it comes to Mother's Day, there are some folks who really look forward to Mother's Day. I know growing up my mom and grandmother and most of the moms at church all looked forward to it...and even their husbands and families, because it usually meant taking mom out to eat, which meant the kids got to go along also...so why not enjoy this special day? At the same time, I'm sure there are some of who don't enjoy it for many probably good reasons......Some of you here or out there watching, maybe you've lost your mom...so you may...

I want you to take God's precious and powerful Word on this Mother's Day morning and I want you to be finding your place at 2nd Timothy chapter 1 if you will. And while you're finding your place there I want to make this one statement as a way of introduction - you know, a lot of times we talk about the faith of our fathers (there's even an old hymn by that title), and I do believe that men are to be the spiritual leaders of their homes. As I've said from this pulpit on numerous occasions the husband is to be the pastor, protector and provider for his home. But if we were to be real honest this morning, more times that not, it's not...

A. Today is mother's day. A time to honor those who gave us birth 1. Today it is time to pause from our identity of believers series. A. Next week one of the most powerful. Want to give it full attention. What it means to be a believer. 2. A special word from God for today. Mother's Day 3. It is important to honor mothers. They have done so much for us A. They carry that child, nurture them, A mother fills so many roles. Nurse, counselor, spiritual advisor, educator, nutritionist, sometimes hair stylist, accountant, transportation center, maid, peace maker, entertainer, etc. B. By Honoring Our Mothers (Parents) We Receive A...

Woodrow Wilson said on May 9, 1914 when congress declared the 2nd Sunday in May as Mother's Day. President Wilson said that this day has been set aside as a time for ''public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.'' It is perfectly consistent to honor God and honor mothers at the same time. In fact, one of God's 10 commandments deals with this. Whether in Exodus 20 or Ephesians 6, we are commanded to ''Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise. (Ephesians 6:2).'' So, the OT and NT alike command children to honor and bless their mothers. But in...

Anna M. Jarvis first suggested the national observance of an annual day honoring all mothers because she had loved her own mother so dearly. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Miss Jarvis gave a carnation (her mother's favorite flower) to each person who attended. Within the next few years, the idea of a day to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother's Day was observed in a number of large cities in the U.S. On May 9, 1914, by an act of Congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. He established the day as a time for "public expression...

I. Introduction A. ''We are living in a changing world. Motherhood, the american flag, and apple pie are three things known for their stability and national appeal. Today, however, the price of apples is inflated, the flag is at times mistreated, and even motherhood is abused.''

Who did Timothy learn them from? His Mother Eunice and Grandmother Lois! How do we know that? Because of the next verse…. 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Now do you think these ladies had a lot on their plates? Of course! • They didn't have the modern conveniences that we all have. • They lived in a culture that was hostile to Christianity - Paul was in prison. • Most commentators believe they were saved and their husbands never came to Christ. See most commentators believe that Timothy had a Jewish Mother and a Greek Father. To many this was the quintessential dysfunctional family, but in God's eyes Timothy had access to two cultures the Jewish culture of his mom and the Greek culture of his dad. • Most likely the father was never...

Mary and Martha were two sisters who were as different as night and day. Martha was the picture of the perfect hostess. She loved to entertain company; of course, as long as they called in advance. If they had such magazines in her day, Martha certainly would have been a subscriber to Southern (Bethany) Living and Better Homes and Gardens. The Bible does not tell us, but perhaps her last name was even Stewart! Martha is a perfectionist and yet, she is her own worst enemy. She sets expectations that she can never meet. She is never able to completely rest and be content. Life for Martha is always an unfinished...

JESUS CHRIST from the cross of Calvary turned to His beloved disciple John and with a dying breath charged him to care for Mary, his mother. Thus, in showing love and respect for the one who gave Him birth, He dignified the role of all mothers and set a worthy example for every offspring.

Happy Mother's Day! Mothers play a critical role in the spiritual formation of their children, as do fathers. -- You are the key faith influencers in the lives of your children. I wouldn't trade being a daddy for anything, nor would my wife trade being a mommy. - There is one thing we understand-- it is us that has to take responsibility for the spiritual investment in our children's lives. As a church, we want to come alongside and RESOURCE parents not REPLACE. This can mean many things but it means we have to equip parents. You can have the best children's ministry hour in town... but if the parents are not growing spiritually you...

On May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. Ever since that day, we are told that more cards and telephone calls are made on Mother's Day than any other holiday. The great British preacher G. Campbell Morgan was once at lunch with his wife and 5 sons, who were all preachers. A friend stopped by their table, and in the course of the conversation asked them, ''Who is the greatest preacher?'' In unison, and without hesitation, the 6 men said, ''Our mother...

Would you open your Bible to James chapter one. (PRAY-especially for singles, women with no children) Every mother here knows that motherhood can be a joyful experience. When you get that homemade birthday card, or that unprovoked hug. When you see your child accomplish something, or succeed at something. Deeply joyful things. Every mother also knows that motherhood can be a funny experience. I'll never forget, when my son Jonathan was about two years old, and we had been having some problems with mice in our house...

This sermon contains a fully alliterated outline, with sub-points. In this sermon we will see how a mother's faith grows and blossoms from the size of a grain of rice to being as big as a mountain. Elijah is tested with a drying brook, a dwindling barrel, a depleting bottle, and ultimately a dying boy. The widow is tested in giving God her meager handful of bread, her minute bottle of oil, and her son. In this message we will learn that there is a time to ''let go and let God!!!'' Theme: ''Learning to let go and let God Land Diving Land diving is a ritual performed by the men of the southern part of Pentecost Island, Vanuatu. The precursor to bungee...

Today is Mother's Day—a time to talk about moms and their kids. There is nothing that can compare with the relationship a mother has with her little boy or girl. Dads love their children just as much, but they always seem so busy with outside things. And when they do take the time, they like to do the big stuff—go to the zoo, take the son fishing or hunting or teach him how to fly a kite, but mothers do all the little insignificant things like; give birth, change diapers, wash their clothes, give them a bath, feed them, take them to school, sit by their bed when they are sick, place Band-Aids on the knees when they fall, and dry their...

I want you to take God's Word now this morning and I want you to be finding your place at what will be for many of you a very familiar portion of scripture, especially for a Mother's Day Sunday morning, and that is Proverbs chapter 31, and verse number 10. And I want to talk to you for just a few minutes this morning about "The Marks of a Marvelous Mom." Now, I say this every year, (and the reason for that is because it needs to be said every year) but I hope that you've already placed a call, or maybe earlier in the week you sent a card, to your mom to tell her just how much you love and appreciate and honor her for all that she's done for you, and even more than that, for just being your mom.

We have heard some beautiful tributes to mothers today. Thank God for Christian mothers. John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States, said, ''All that I am my mother made me.'' Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, said, ''All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.'' Dwight L. Moody, the famed evangelist, declared, ''All that I have ever accomplished in life I owe to my mother.'' Napoleon who was elected the emperor of France on May 18, 1804, said, ''Let France have good mothers and she will have good sons.''Benjamin West was born in Springfield, Pennsylvania, but by the time...

1. A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day in a written test, she included this question: “My full name has six letters. The first one is M, and I pick up things. What am I?” When the grades were all in the teacher was astounded to find that almost fifty percent had written in "MOTHER." 2. Many of us are familiar with the love chapter in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 13. It tells us that love is patient, kind, etc. Let me read you a different approach to this chapter focusing on moms:
